This understanding, he explained, underscores the proposition: ”Value plus Velocity for the Customer” as the propelling force of the operations of MDS for the year 2005 and beyond.
Mr. Ajayi was speaking at the Annual Clients' Dinner/Award Night of MDS, a Business Unit of UACN, which was held at the Sheraton Hotel and Towers in Lagos . He further said: “To this end, we have embarked upon major redevelopment and expansion of MDS warehousing facilities, upgrading of operational equipment, process automation and competency building.” Mr. Ajayi told the MDS clients at the dinner that the goal of the on going restructuring at MDS is to build a world-class supply chain organisation with the capacity to deliver first class logistics solutions.
The UACN Managing Director also stated that the second phase of the Abuja Regional Distribution Centre would be completed very soon, adding that MDS had concluded arrangements for the construction of an ultra-modern Distribution Centre in Aba, Abia State this year. On the increasing need to access real time information, especially with regard to the distribution business, Mr. Ajayi said that MDS had embarked on the implementation of a Wide Area Network (WAN) of its distribution centres to a Central Logistics Cell at its Head Office in Oregun, in Lagos .
In his presentation on “Value plus Velocity for the Customer”, to the MDS clients, which included Guinness Nigeria Plc, MTN, Promasidor Nigeria Limited, Nestle, CAP Plc, Grand Cereals and Oil Mills Limited and Flour Mills Nigeria Plc, Mr. Hakeem Ogunniran, Divisional Managing Director of MDS said that MDS undertook two Customer Surveys and a Process Audit in 2004 with a view to gaining further insights into the market dynamics, bringing “customers voice in-house” and streamlining the operations to enhance quality service rendition.
Mr. Ogunniran informed the clients that MDS had repositioned for improved services through the streamlining of the customer base from 44 to 25, adoption of a hub–based distribution model, in addition to customized operations, expansion of infrastructural facilities and ensuring that there are full operating equipment in all MDS depots. |
