MDS Commissions Its Northern Its Northern Regional Distribution Office in Abuja

The formal commissioning of the Northern Regional Distribution Centre at the Idu Industrial Estate Abuja was held on Thursday 26th of May 2005.

     

In his keynote address, the Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of UACN Plc, Ayo Ajayi thanked the FCT Minister for the FCDA’s support of UACN businesses especially Mr. BIGGS and UPDC. He said that “The journey to the commissioning event started about three years ago and was driven by the request of our key clients for a central hub that will enable them to more easily service the needs of their distributors and end consumers in and around the FCT”.

The commissioning of the facility was done by the FCT Minister’s representative Mr. Abdulrazaq Oniyangi, who dedicated it “to the glory of God and service of mankind”. This was followed by a tour of the facility which was led by the DMD of MDS, Mr. Hakeem Ogunniran. Taking the guests round the facility, he showed them the vast floor space and the warehouses currently being occupied by some clients.

He explained that the NRDC has a total warehouse space of 5,200m2, a convenient loading bay with a 12 meters protruding canopy that allows for loading activities in different weather conditions. It is also equipped with ample office space for clients, conveniences and a 75KVA generator. Mr. Ogunniran explained that the space in the warehouse will be maximized through the installation of Dexion racks which will increase the usable space to about 24,000 pallet squares.

Some of the MDS clients present at the program described MDS as a pacesetter and the facility as a milestone in the Nigerian logistics industry. Several of them also indicated their in the location.
